Tyre Reading
There are many different systems of marking tyres but in Australia the most common form is the P metric system and as illustrated the typical marking would be: P 185/75 R14 82S. P suggests the tyre is indicated for a passenger vehicle, 185 is the tyre (or section) width in mm, 75 indicates the aspect ratio, R means the tyre is a radial-ply and 14 is the wheel rim diameter in inches. 82S refers to the load and speed rating of the tyre, in this case 82 means the tyre is rated for a maximum load of 475kg and S means the tyre is indicated for a maximum speed of 180km/h.
